10. One Piece holds a Guinness Book of World Record title

If you are a One Piece fan then you probably know about this already, if not then don't worry, keep reading ;).

In 2015 Guinness Book of World Records listed One Piece for "Most copies published for the same manga series by a single author."

Oda released One Piece manga back in December 1997 and by the manga got recognized by The Guinness Book of World Records, over 320,866,000 copies.

9. Series was supposed to last only 5 years

Oda in an interview stated that he was going to conclude the manga within 5 years, in 2002. However, as he progressed he created more battle scenes and more characters and the story continued.

Maybe this is because he is always busy with his works from 5am to 2am and if you are thinking about holidays, well he never gets one.

In an interview, he stated that if he ever gets a holiday or a day off, he would like to go on a vacation with his family.

8. Luffy is the first ever manga character to come on the cover of a fashion magazine

Lufffy; first manga character to appear on fashion magazine

In 2009, Luffy became the first ever anime character to come on the cover page of Men's Non-No fashion magazine. It was the first time ever in the magazine's 24 years of history that a manga character has been used on the cover page.

7. There are no female members in Shank's crew

You can't find any female in his crew.

6. Some of the One Piece characters have been taken from Nightmare before Christmas

Eiichiro Ods is a big fan of that movie so you might find some of the One Piece characters similar to the characters from that movie.

5. Luffy was able to ride on Goku's cloud

In the crossover manga of Dragonball and One Piece, it is shown that Luffy was able to ride Goku's cloud (Nimbus), which can only be ridden by someone with a pure heart. It implies that Luffy too has a pure heart.

4. Lucky Roo was the first character in One Piece to murder someone

3. One Piece originated from two one-shot stories

One Piece originated from two one-shot series; Romance Dawn1-2
Image Source: Source 1; Source 2
Before he created One Piece in 1997, he created two one-shot stories with the name Romance Dawn, about which he planned in Sigh School. In this series, Luffy was the lead character with his famous straw hat.

So, when he created One Piece in 1997 he kept the name Romance Dawn as a tribute to those two one-shot series which he wrote before One Piece. You can check the title of the first chapter yourself! ;)

2. Oda became an artist so that he doesn't have to work on a real office job

Many of the manga artist or mangaka start their career as an artist because it was always their dream to write manga. However, in an interview, Eiichiro Oda started as an artist so that he doesn't have to spend hours working at a boring office.

1. Sanji was planned to be named 'Naruto'

Sanji was planned to be named as Naruto

As Oda progressed, he developed the adventures of Luffy and many characters. Sanji is one of the characters that he created. But when Oda created Sanji, he planned to name him Naruto. However, Masashi Kishimoto had just developed his Naruto series. So, Oda changed the name to Sanji.
