The gaming industry is a very big industry. Each year, many new games are made in which companies pour millions of dollars. In return, they too earn a lot of money from their sales. Out of all the games, there are only a few games, which make it to the popular list and gets played for decades.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, developed b Bethesda game studios and published by Bethesda softworks, is the fifth main installment of The Elder Scrolls series. It was released on November 11, 2011, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and XBox 360. 

The game story revolves around the player character and their mission to defeat the dragon who was prophesied to destroy the world, Alduin the World-Eater.

Upon the release of Skyrim, it received really good reviews worldwide with more than 30 millions of copy sale worldwide.

New Super Mario Bros, published by Nintendo, is no doubt is on the list. Mario games are popular from day one, but this game crossed all of it's previous side scrolling games. It was released in North America and Japan in  May 2008 and later in Australia and Europe the following month.

The game included more powers for Mario, like The Super mushroom, firepower, and the Starman, which he must use to defeat Browser Jr. and Browser in order to save Princess Peach. 

Upon release the game received great reviews due to various improvements also got criticized as well for the game's simplicity. But this didn't hurt the sale of the game, sold about 30.8 million copies worldwide till now.

Originally released in Japan as Pokemon Red Version and Green Version in Japan, are first installments of the Pokemon game series. Pokemon Red, Green, and Blue are role-playing games, developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. These games were released in Japan in 1996 and after the release, almost 31.38 million copies were sold worldwide.

Wii Sports Resort is a collection of twelve sports games, including enhanced games from the Wii Sports game and also with some newly added games too, which are played using the remote and also Nunchuks too. Thanks to the improvements, the game characters mimics the moves of the player, more accurately and smoothly, unlike its predecessor. The game mostly received good reviews from the users around the world and sold over 33 million copies till now. As of today, this game is the third best-selling game on the Wii.


  6   Mario Kart Wii (36.95 million)

Again another game from Wii on the list. This game is not related to the original game line of Mario. This game is all about Kert racing using Mario characters. The player has to choose a character from the Mario and must beat other characters in the game using one's own driving skills using specialized items to gain advantage and obviously using the motion sensors of the Wii remote. The game got good reviews because of the addition of the multiplayer mode, different tracks, Mario characters and racing karts and have sold over 36 million copies since its release in 2008.

No surprise another game from the Mario franchise made it to the top ten list. This game is the successor of the original game Mario Bros. The game released in Japan and North America in 1985 and opened its door to other countries in 1987. The game got really good reviews across the world and remained a best seller game for over 30 years, selling more than 40 million copies.

You might have also been waiting for this game to come out after its trailer was released. I also wanted to play it but still couldn't because of my PC's low specs :| anyway back to the topic, this game was released for XBox-360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17, 2013, and on November 18, 2014 for PlayStation 4 and XBox one and finally on April 14, 2015, for Microsoft Windows. Since its release, it got positive reviews for its multiple protagonist designs, open world, presentation, and gameplay. It also broke industry sales record and became the fastest-selling entertainment product in the history, earning $800 million on the first day and over $2 billion within the first three days of the release making it one of the most popular video game of all time.


  3   Wii Sports (82.81 million)

Told ya already above that you are gonna meet him down. Wii Sports was released on November 19, 2006, containing 5 mini-games which can be played using the Wii remote control. This game was actually made to show-off the motion sensor skills of the Wii remote. 

The game got good reviews and sold over 82.81 million copies worldwide.

In this game, the player can create almost everything! You heard it, from ships to tall buildings. This game was first released on November 18, 2011, and now it has sold over 122 million copies and also has won several awards too. A game that one should try.

There's a saying, "old is gold" and this game proves it correct. Tetris is the most popular game of all time. Ask your friends, your relatives or your neighbor, almost all of them would reply they have played Tetris, at least once in their life.

This game was originally released on June 6, 1984, and became the first ever entertainment software to be exported to the US from USSR. Up until today, 495 million copies have been sold worldwide, giving this game a win on our list by a large margin.
